SUTTER HEALTH PARK — The Oakland Athletics lost to the Seattle Mariners 9-1 at Sutter Health Park, dropping them out of first place in the American League West for the first time since April. The defeat marked the conclusion of a three-game series between the two teams.

Mariners starter Logan Gilbert faced the A’s, while Jeffrey Springs took the mound for Oakland. Springs pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven. The Mariners struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning.

Colt Emerson tripled in the top of the fourth inning, driving in Cole Young and Jhonny Pereda. The A’s managed their first extra-base hit in the bottom of the fifth when Zack Gelof doubled. Gelof finished with two of Oakland’s eight hits in the game.

Joel Kuhnel replaced Springs at the start of the sixth inning. A throwing error by Darrel Hernaiz in the same frame allowed Young to score. Tyler Soderstrom doubled with one out in the sixth off Gilbert, but the A’s could not mount a sustained rally.

Luis Medina entered the game in the seventh inning, replacing Kuhnel. Julio Rodríguez hit a two-out home run to left center field in the top of the eighth, scoring Young and Emerson. José Suarez took over for Medina in the ninth inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Jeff McNeil grounded into a double play that scored Jonah Heim, accounting for Oakland’s only run of the game.
