NEW YORK CITY — Anna 'Delvey' Sorokin remains in New York City on an ankle monitor while appealing her deportation following her 2022 release from prison. She was released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after a brief detention and has stayed in the city under electronic surveillance as her appeal of removal proceeds.

Sorokin, a German-Russian woman, posed as a wealthy heiress in New York City before being convicted on felony theft charges, including grand larceny and theft of services. By 2022, she had overstayed her tourist visa and completed a prison sentence stemming from those convictions. Rumors of her deportation first emerged that same year, months after her early release.

A Homeland Security spokesperson stated, "For years, she has made a mockery of the United States court system and its immigration laws." The same spokesperson added, "We look forward to sending her home soon."

In 2022, Sorokin said in a media interview, "I lived out most of my adult life in NY and a lot of my friends and support system are based in the US." She also said, "I don’t see a reason why I should be banned forever while so many violent offenders get released by ICE on daily basis."

Since her release, Sorokin has maintained a public presence. She continues to use the name Anna Delvey and has more than 1 million followers on Instagram. She recently posted a video showing "how I get tights under the ankle monitor." She also shared a foggy photo of New York City over Memorial Day weekend, captioning it, "Happy Memorial Day weekend from the best city in the world."

Sorokin’s post-conviction fame grew after the release of a Netflix docuseries about her life, for which she was paid $320,000 according to IMDB. She also appeared on "Dancing With the Stars." According to prosecutors, Sorokin funded her lavish lifestyle by scamming a bank and failing to repay debts, while falsely claiming to be the heiress of a German millionaire with a $67 million fortune.
