MANHATTAN BEACH — Mira Costa High School earned the No. 1 ranking in the USA TODAY Sports/AVCA Super 25 boys high school volleyball poll for Week 12. The team, based in Manhattan Beach, CA, holds a 36-2 record after defeating Loyola High School in the Southern California Division I regional final.

The Mustangs won that five-set match with scores of 14-25, 25-20, 25-23, 19-25, and 15-5. Their sole losses this season came early, and they have since compiled a dominant string of victories to secure the top national spot.

Mira Costa is set to face Northgate High School (37-1) in the CIF Division I boys volleyball state championship on May 30 at 5:30 p.m. The match will take place at Fresno City College.

The USA TODAY Sports/AVCA Super 25 rankings feature 25 teams from across the country, representing the West, Midwest, Northeast, and South regions. One new team entered the Week 12 national poll after climbing in its regional rankings. Mira Costa’s rise to No. 1 follows its undefeated run through the postseason bracket after an early-season setback.
