SEATTLE — Alexander Taylor Weis, 40, was arrested Monday for allegedly causing over $240,000 worth of damage to glass sculptures at the Chihuly Garden and Glass exhibit at the foot of the Space Needle in Seattle. He was found damaging the exhibit's glass plant sculptures inside a secure area of the museum late Monday night.

When approached by museum security, Weis threw broken glass and attempted to stab a security guard with a glass shard. According to court filings, when confronted by a security guard at Seattle Center, he hurled a longer piece of glass like a javelin at the guard. A security guard said the secure area was locked at the time of the incident.

A Seattle Police Department spokesperson said officers arrived to find large pieces of broken glass on the walking path and scattered around the area. The spokesperson said he was tazed and taken into custody after initially being combative and refusing to follow commands.

Seattle Center Security reported that about 12 items were damaged or destroyed at the museum. The museum houses a collection by blown glass artist Dale Chihuly.

A spokesperson for the correctional facility said he was booked into King County Jail for investigation of burglary, assault, and malicious mischief. The spokesperson said Weis is being held on $100,000 bail.

According to court filings, Weis has a 2023 misdemeanor conviction for negligent driving and a pending charge for malicious mischief from earlier this year. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 24, 2026.
