CAPITOL HILL — Democratic senators endorsed competing candidates in Senate primaries in Maine, Michigan, Iowa and Minnesota, creating divisions within the party over the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee's preferred picks. Senator Elizabeth Warren endorsed Graham Platner in Maine's primary, opposing the DSCC's public endorsement of Governor Janet Mills.

Warren also endorsed state Senator Mallory McMorrow in Michigan's Senate primary and state Senator Zach Wahls in Iowa's Senate primary. She previously endorsed Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota's Senate primary and Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton in Illinois, where Stratton won her primary on Tuesday.

A group of Democratic senators calls themselves the "Fight Club" and formed because they were concerned that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee may not be supporting the right candidates. Warren is a member of this informal group.

Senator Bernie Sanders endorsed both Platner in Maine and Flanagan in Minnesota. Warren previously endorsed Senator Ed Markey in Massachusetts's Senate primary.

A competing faction of senators endorsed Representative Angie Craig in Minnesota's Senate primary, including Catherine Cortez Masto. Cortez Masto leads a political action committee supporting moderate candidates called the ModSquad and also endorsed Representative Haley Stevens in Michigan's primary and state Representative Josh Turek in Iowa's primary.

Warren publicly criticized the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee earlier this year. Janet Mills is the main opponent of Graham Platner in Maine's Senate primary.
