SPRING BRANCH — Jack Tillett’s SUV remains disabled at a friend’s repair shop after he says he filled up at the Circle K on Long Point Road in Spring Branch earlier this month. Tillett, who drives for Uber, said losing his vehicle has meant losing his income.
"I can’t work. I’m completely unemployed because I drive Uber," Jack Tillett said. He added that the financial strain forced him to move out of the extended-stay hotel where he had been living and that he is now relying on friends for transportation and housing while trying to get back on his feet.
Multiple customers reported engine problems shortly after fueling at the Circle K located at 7230 Long Point Road. A Circle K employee said four to six customers had complained about vehicle issues and that water was found in the station’s fuel system. The employee said the affected fuel was removed and the issue was corrected.
A clerk at the station said state regulators had inspected the fuel and cleared the station to resume selling gasoline.
James Gill reported vehicle damage after fueling at the same Circle K and was able to get his truck repaired but remains uncertain about reimbursement. The Circle K station said it was working with its corporate office regarding possible reimbursement for affected customers.
