LONDON — Filip Jorgensen has indicated his desire to leave Chelsea due to a lack of regular game time following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. The goalkeeper informed Ben Roberts, the club’s head of global goalkeeping, that he seeks consistent first-team football.

Jorgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal for £20.7 million in 2024. During the 2024-25 season, under former head coach Enzo Maresca, he largely acted as Robert Sanchez's understudy. His playing time increased in the 2025-26 season under head coach Liam Rosenior, who rotated him in and out of the lineup. In March 2026, Jorgensen made a high-profile error during a match away at Paris St-Germain and subsequently underwent groin surgery.

Sanchez’s availability also fluctuated during the 2025-26 campaign. In May 2026, he suffered a concussion in a match against Nottingham Forest, briefly opening the door for Jorgensen. Despite this, the Dane’s position remained uncertain, and his request to leave the club reflects his desire for stability as a starting goalkeeper.

Chelsea blocked Jorgensen’s potential departure during the January 2026 transfer window, despite interest from Besiktas, Genoa, and Porto. The club is now open to selling him on favorable terms. No transfer is understood to be imminent so soon after the season’s end, with the summer window still in its early stages.

As Jorgensen seeks a fresh start, Chelsea appears to be looking ahead. Mike Penders, another goalkeeper highly regarded at Stamford Bridge, is likely to be considered by incoming head coach Xabi Alonso as Jorgensen’s potential replacement during pre-season preparations.
