LOS ANGELES — Kelsey Plum sustained an ankle sprain during Los Angeles Sparks practice on May 26, 2026, and was helped off the court by several teammates after the injury to her right lower leg. The Sparks announced she will be re-evaluated in one week.
"Kelsey Plum sustained an ankle sprain during practice today. She will be re-evaluated in one week. Further updates will be provided as appropriate," the team said in a statement.
Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts, in her second year leading the team, said after practice that the injury appeared to involve Plum’s ankle but the severity was unknown. "It looks like an ankle injury. We don’t know how bad," Roberts said.
Plum is the Sparks’ leading scorer in the 2026 WNBA season, averaging 26.8 points per game as of May 26. She also ranks fifth in the league in assists with 6.3 per game.
Plum is expected to miss the Sparks’ back-to-back road games against the Washington Mystics and Connecticut Sun following her injury. She is also likely to miss the team’s June 2, 2026 home game against the Las Vegas Aces.
Plum, a four-time WNBA All-Star, was traded from the Las Vegas Aces to the Los Angeles Sparks before the 2025 season. The Sparks have not made the WNBA Playoffs since 2020.
The 2020 season marked the last time the Sparks qualified for postseason play. Since then, the team has undergone multiple roster changes, including acquiring Plum ahead of the 2025 campaign as part of an effort to rebuild around veteran talent.
