KANSAS CITY — Cam Schlittler pitched six innings of one-run ball in a start against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night, allowing four hits while striking out six and issuing no walks.
Schlittler now holds a league-best 1.50 ERA through 12 starts in 2026. Over that span, he has allowed zero earned runs in five starts, one earned run in four starts, two earned runs in one start, and three earned runs in two starts.
Prior to Tuesday’s start, Schlittler’s four-seam fastball averaged 97.8 mph, accounted for 45% of his pitches, and held batters to a .196 average. His cutter, averaging 94.1 mph and used 27.9% of the time, limited opponents to a .154 average, while his sinker—thrown 18.3% of the time at 97.3 mph—resulted in a .183 batting average against.
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised Schlittler’s approach and adaptability. “I like his competitiveness. He’s got that ‘I’m gonna rip your heart out’ competitor thing to him, but he’s also very even keeled and laid back. So he strikes a good balance.”
Boone added that Schlittler readily absorbs feedback and applies it effectively. “He’s very easy to talk to and give feedback to, whether it’s positive or negative. And I think he does a really good job of assessing what just went on in an outing and are there adjustments that need to be made, are there not, what’s next to work on, and I feel like he’s able to apply things really well.”
Boone also spoke about Schlittler’s confidence and evolving skill set. “He definitely wants the ball. He expects to go out and not only pitch well, but dominate. He has that mindset. Some people want to have that mindset, but don’t have the confidence to go with it. He certainly does.” Boone said Schlittler’s arsenal has evolved over the past 18 months, crediting his ability to integrate coaching input into on-field improvements.
Schlittler, a 6-foot-6 right-hander, was a seventh-round draft pick by the Yankees in 2022 out of Northeastern University. He began the 2025 season with Double-A Somerset, earned a promotion to Triple-A by early June 2025, and made his Major League debut on July 9, 2025.
