RIO DE JANEIRO — A decision published in Brazil's official gazette on Friday stated that Fernando Haddad resigned as finance minister. Fernando Haddad announced he will run for governor of São Paulo state.

Dario Durigan replaced Fernando Haddad as finance minister. Dario Durigan had been executive-secretary of the finance ministry.

At an event in São Bernardo do Campo, Haddad said "I don't run in elections to bargain, I run to win." At the same event, Fernando Haddad said "Political victory is always possible: you just have to present yourself with integrity and a strong plan."

As finance minister, Haddad pushed through changes to how Brazil taxes goods and services and implemented an income tax reform. The goods and services tax proposal had been in development for decades.
