EL SEGUNDO — The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Rohan Ramadas as their assistant general manager of strategy and data systems. Ramadas will be in charge of “basketball analytics and strategic initiatives for basketball operations,” the Lakers said in a statement.

Ramadas spent the past nine years with the New Orleans Pelicans, including the last two as their vice president of strategy and basketball operations. Before joining the NBA full-time in 2024, he worked for 12 years in the aerospace industry, including at El Segundo-based The Aerospace Corporation. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in astronautical engineering from the University of Southern California and is a Bay Area native.

“Rohan is an important and strong addition to our front office as we further build out our basketball operations resources,” Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said. “His unique blend of career experiences and analytical expertise will further strengthen the strong work already taking place internally within our data analytics and salary cap management teams.”

Pelinka has emphasized plans to expand the Lakers’ executive leadership under new ownership. Last year, Mark Walter—the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers—purchased a controlling stake in the Lakers from the Buss family. Pelinka repeated earlier this month that the organization intends to add talent to its executive suite as part of a broader transformation.

The Lakers also plan to hire a second assistant general manager to oversee scouting and player development, according to Pelinka. Dodgers executives Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi have been involved in the Lakers’ assistant general manager hiring process, and Pelinka has referred to the Dodgers as a “brother-sister organization” for the Lakers. Lon Rosen, a longtime Dodgers executive and former agent for Magic Johnson, joined the Lakers as president of business operations in February.

The Lakers’ front-office expansion follows a 2023–24 season in which they won their second straight Pacific Division title and reached the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. They were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round. The team holds the No. 25 overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and could create approximately $48 million in cap space this offseason. Star players LeBron James and Austin Reaves are both headed for unrestricted free agency.
