SAN ANTONIO — A man was fatally stabbed steps away from San Antonio's Central Library on Monday morning, prompting a homicide investigation by the San Antonio Police Department. Law enforcement initially responded around 11:24 a.m. after a passerby found the victim in the area of Augusta and Navarro streets and called authorities.

The victim, who authorities believe was homeless and between his 20s and 40s, was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries. Officials said he had been stabbed three times in the torso following an argument involving anywhere from one to four people.

As of early Monday afternoon, police had not detained any suspects. Investigators were reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and VIA buses to identify those involved and were speaking with a group of people believed to have been in the area.

"At this point, we have not located any weapons," SAPD Sgt. Robert Mount said at the scene. "We’re going through a lot of information, a lot of video to try to pinpoint exactly who was involved and who might be the possible suspect."

Mount added that multiple units were assisting in the effort. "We have multiple officers, various agencies, bike patrol. Everyone's involved to try and interview as many people as possible to try and get justice for the victim."
