Among individual stocks, Micron Technology jumped 16.5% to over $870, extending a rally that has tripled the chipmaker's stock so far in 2026. UBS analysts led by Timothy Arcuri raised their 12-month price target on Micron to $1,625 from $535.

Shares of travel-related companies also advanced on Tuesday. United Airlines rose 5.4% and Carnival gained 3.2%. AutoZone dropped 11.6% after reporting slightly weaker revenue than analysts had expected, though its profit exceeded expectations. Most big U.S. companies reported both profit and revenue for early 2026 above analyst expectations.

On the economic data front, a report released Tuesday showed U.S. consumer confidence edged downward in May, though the decline was less severe than economists had expected. A separate report on Friday, May 21, said U.S. consumer sentiment hit its lowest level on record.
