MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA — Inclement weather delayed the third-round Sun Belt Conference Tournament game between the No. 1 seed Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the No. 4 seed Troy Trojans by more than eight hours on May 22 at DABOS Park in Montgomery, Alabama. The contest, originally scheduled for 11 a.m. CT, was pushed to a 7:25 p.m. CT first pitch.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles entered the matchup with a 41-14 record, while the Troy Trojans came in at 30-27.

The Sun Belt Conference issued the first weather update at 10:35 a.m. CT, announcing that the game would start no sooner than 11:45 a.m. CT. Shortly before 11:30 a.m. CT, the Southern Miss team loaded its bus, left DABOS Park, and returned to its hotel.

At noon CT, the conference announced an indefinite delay. Weather conditions in the Montgomery area continued to affect playing conditions at DABOS Park through the afternoon.

At 5:20 p.m. CT, the Sun Belt Conference announced that the game would start at 7 p.m. CT. Shortly after that announcement, the start time was adjusted again, pushed back by 25 minutes to 7:25 p.m. CT.

The sequence of delays moved the game from its original late-morning slot to a night start, more than eight hours after the scheduled first pitch. Southern Miss entered the tournament as the top seed in the Sun Belt Conference field. Troy, seeded fourth, carried a record just above .500 at 30-27. Both teams returned to the venue to begin play under the revised timetable. The winner of the third-round contest would advance in the conference tournament bracket.
