NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE — Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon is expected to join Bayern Munich for a fee of around €80 million. The German club is close to agreeing a five-year deal with the 25-year-old.

Bayern Munich is willing to pay €70 million for Gordon, while Newcastle United is asking €90 million. Newcastle is also holding out for a valuation of £75 million.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer addressed the club's transfer activity without confirming interest in any specific player. "I'm not commenting on any names. Generally speaking, our sporting management is exploring the market. There are, of course, many candidates, both offensively and defensively," Hainer said.

Newcastle is looking at Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo, 21, as one of the potential replacements for Gordon. The club is also in talks with UEFA over a potential breach of Financial Sustainability Regulations, with a verdict expected by the summer.

UEFA rules limit clubs to spending no more than 70% of their revenue on squad costs, including transfer fees, wages and agent fees. Incoming Premier League rules will limit clubs to spending 85% of their revenue without facing punishment.

Newcastle's three-year losses up to June 2025 were £181.2 million, some of which can be written off due to infrastructure investments. UEFA's three-year loss limit is £52 million.

If Newcastle is found to be in breach of UEFA's financial rules, the club will face a fine and player trading restrictions requiring it to submit a net positive transfer income for a period. Chelsea and Aston Villa reached agreements with UEFA in recent seasons after exceeding the financial mark.
