SAN ANTONIO — Officer Johnathan T. Guerra was indefinitely suspended from the San Antonio Police Department in May 2026 after body-camera footage showed him using unnecessary physical violence during a September 2025 arrest, according to suspension records. Guerra has been employed with the department since 2020, city records show.

The arrest involved a man wanted on a felony warrant for family violence, according to records. While handcuffing the suspect, Guerra used his knee to strike the suspect in the back of the head, an action captured on his body camera.

As Guerra helped the suspect to stand, the suspect attempted to kick him. "You kick me bro, I'm gonna f--- you up," Guerra said, according to records. Records show Guerra then hit the suspect in the face and told him to shut up.

While being searched, the suspect said he did not want the officer to touch him. Guerra told the suspect to "shut the f--- up," then slapped him in the back of the head, pulled his hair, and pushed him onto the hood of a patrol unit, according to records.

The suspension paperwork states Guerra's body camera footage shows him lifting the suspect's arms. The suspect screamed and said, "If he kicked him, it was because his arms were being pushed too far."

Records show the suspect physically taunted Guerra while being booked into jail. Guerra then kneed the suspect in the stomach, an action also recorded on body camera.
