New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo said he expects to be ready for Week 1 of the upcoming season as he rehabs from a Week 8 ankle injury, speaking Monday night at the team's annual Town Hall at the Beacon Theater in New York. The second-year player is currently at the jogging stage of his recovery.

"I'm a little ways out. Not too far, but I'll be ready to go. Week 1, I'll be ready to go," Skattebo said at the event.

In Week 8 of the previous season, Skattebo dislocated his ankle, fractured his right fibula, and ruptured his deltoid ligament. The rehab was expected to take eight to ten months, and the injury is not expected to affect his availability for the 2026 season.

Sports analyst Chris Simms expressed doubt about the timeline. "When he says, 'I'm a little ways out,' that makes me think it'll be dicey for Week 1," Simms said. He added, "I don't think he's going to be 100 percent himself during week one."

Selected by the Giants in the fourth round of the NFL Draft out of Arizona State, Skattebo rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns and caught 24 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns in eight games last season. Through Week 8, he was one of five NFL players with at least 400 rushing yards and 200 receiving yards, joining Christian McCaffrey, De'Von Achane, Bijan Robinson, and Jonathan Taylor.

Skattebo set higher expectations for the coming year. "I do not consider that successful for me. I had 400 yards on 100 carries. When I play 17-plus games this year, it's going to be 300 carries for over 2,000 yards," he said.

Skattebo shares the Giants' backfield with Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary, and rookie Damon Bankston. CBS Sports projects he will rush 208 times for 907 yards and nine touchdowns this season and ranks him as the consensus No. 16 running back in PPR fantasy football.
