CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA — Clemson's women's basketball program submitted a waiver to the NCAA this offseason seeking an extra year of eligibility for senior guard Mia Moore. The program is awaiting a decision on the request.

Moore led the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game and in assists at 4.7 per game this past season. She also averaged 5.4 rebounds per game, shot 37% from three-point range and was selected to the All-ACC team.

"She would literally be the face of Clemson women's basketball if she were to get this extra year," said Shawn Poppie, head coach of the program, who is entering his third season. He added: "But you add Mia in there — she's an unbelievable kid, an unbelievable teammate and an unbelievable worker."

The roster around Moore includes returning starter Rusne Augustinaite, who ranked 19th in the nation in three-point shooting this past season with a 42.1% success rate from behind the arc. Clemson also added transfer guard Mackenzie Nelson from Virginia Tech, who ranked second nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio this past season. The incoming freshman class includes three ESPN Top 60 recruits.

Nelson's addition came as Clemson builds out its backcourt ahead of a potential ruling on Moore's waiver. If the NCAA grants the request, Moore would return to a roster that also features Augustinaite and Nelson, giving Clemson three experienced guards. Poppie said of the Nelson addition: "Mackenzie Nelson, we think can play alongside Mia Moore, no doubt."
