DALLAS, TEXAS — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was booked into the Dallas County jail on Tuesday to serve a 30-day sentence after violating his probation by testing positive for THC. Rice was booked at 12:15 p.m. and is due to be released on June 16, according to court filings.

A court order dated May 19, 2025, showed that Rice tested positive for THC. A Dallas County judge had allowed Rice to serve his 30-day jail sentence at any time within his five-year probation period. The jail term will keep Rice away from the Chiefs' organized team activities scheduled for May 26-28 and June 1-3, as well as the mandatory minicamp scheduled for June 9-11.

Rice was on probation for his role in a street-racing crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024 that left multiple people injured. He pleaded guilty in July 2024 to two third-degree felonies related to the crash and was sentenced to five years of probation and deferred adjudication on a 30-day jail sentence.

Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus SUV at 119 mph along Dallas' North Central Expressway when he made multiple aggressive maneuvers around traffic and struck other vehicles. The Lamborghini struck a retaining wall, causing a chain reaction collision that damaged five vehicles. Two occupants of the other vehicles were hospitalized and two others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Rice and four other men left the scene on foot, leaving behind the Lamborghini and a Chevrolet Corvette belonging to Rice, and did not check on the occupants of the other vehicles. Weeks after the crash, Rice took responsibility for the collision after meeting with Dallas police. An arrest warrant charged him with one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injuries. Rice turned himself in following the issuance of the warrant.

Speaking about the crash before his booking, Rice said, "You have to learn from things like that. I've learned and taken advantage of being able to learn from something like that."

The NFL suspended Rice without pay for the first six games of the 2025 season for violating the league's personal conduct policy. A second-round pick by the Chiefs in 2023, Rice helped Kansas City win the Super Bowl in the 2023 season. He has played parts of three seasons, missing time because of a suspension and a knee injury, and caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns in eight games last season. He has 156 receptions for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns in 28 career games.
