TWIGGS COUNTY, GEORGIA — Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith Jr. was arrested Friday night in Twiggs County, Georgia, and charged with speeding and reckless driving after being clocked at 135 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 16. Smith was booked into the county jail at 11:24 p.m. Friday and released at 12:41 a.m. Saturday after posting bond, according to a spokesperson.

The Twiggs County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that officers observed a Lamborghini traveling at 136 mph in a 70 mph zone. The driver cooperated and followed deputies back to the office, where citations were issued, bond was posted, and the driver was released with no injuries.

"No drama. No injuries. Just a very fast car learning a very expensive lesson." the sheriff's office wrote.

Smith has a July 14 court date but will not need to appear if he pays the citations issued, the spokesperson said. Smith, 25, is a native of Savannah, Georgia, and played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2019 to 2022.

Smith was selected by the Eagles with the No. 30 overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The team exercised his fifth-year option in April 2026. Smith was part of the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX winning roster.

Through his first 45 career appearances, Smith totaled 91 combined tackles, 25 quarterback hits, 10.5 sacks, two passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Last season, he made a career-high 12 starts and recorded 31 total tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble. He missed five games because of a triceps injury.
