DAEJEON — A fire broke out at an auto parts factory in Daejeon, South Korea, at about 1:17 p.m., injuring at least 50 people. Thirty-five people were seriously injured in the fire.

More than 200 firefighters and 70 vehicles were deployed to fight the blaze. Video from the scene showed thick gray smoke billowing from the factory complex.

It was not immediately clear whether any of the injured were in life-threatening condition. The number of workers remaining inside the facility was not known immediately.

Prime Minister Kim Min-seok called for the full mobilization of personnel and equipment to contain the fire and carry out rescue operations.

The National Fire Agency warned that the number of casualties could rise. No immediate comment was made on the possible cause of the blaze.
