Kya Sainsbury-Carter is leaving Microsoft after three years as the company's top advertising executive, according to a LinkedIn post. Matt Derella, who has led global ad sales at LinkedIn since late 2024, will succeed her as senior vice president of both LinkedIn Marketing Solutions and Microsoft Advertising.
LinkedIn's corporate communications team confirmed Derella's appointment in a blog post. The combined role places oversight of advertising operations at both businesses under a single executive. Sainsbury-Carter joined Microsoft in 2006, building a tenure of nearly two decades at the company before her departure from the top advertising post.
Derella thanked both Microsoft and LinkedIn and their customers in a LinkedIn post following the announcement. His prior role at LinkedIn placed him at the head of the professional networking platform's global advertising sales operation, a position he had held for roughly a year before the appointment.
LinkedIn's corporate communications team said that Microsoft and LinkedIn will continue to operate as distinct organizations. The two businesses have maintained separate operational structures since Microsoft's acquisition of the professional networking platform, and the appointment of a shared advertising leader does not alter that arrangement.
