Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre sat down with podcaster Joe Rogan in a podcast interview. The interview lasted more than two hours and touched on Canada's assisted dying laws, fitness and U.S. tariffs.

Poilievre said his main goal was to argue for removing tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on Canada. "We need to harness the goodwill of the American people, and what better place to do it than on the biggest podcast in the world," Poilievre said. He said removing those tariffs would be beneficial for both Canada and the United States.

During the conversation, he said easing lumber and aluminum tariffs on Canada would help lower the cost of housing and trucks in the United States. He argued that Canada could help the United States with its rising oil prices by selling it more energy. "We should get the tariffs out because there's so much we could be doing together as neighbours and partners," he said.

At the start of the conversation, Poilievre presented Rogan with a Canadian-made kettlebell embossed with a maple leaf. They discussed Canadian politics and his pitch for maintaining free trade between Canada and the United States.

The episode was part of a U.S. tour Poilievre made to increase his international profile. The visit comes ahead of negotiations to determine the future of the free trade agreement between Canada, the United States and Mexico, which is up for mandatory review this year. Poilievre is in the United States for his first official trip south of the border.

During his tour, Poilievre stopped in Detroit, where he met car-manufacturing executives, and in Texas, where he toured facilities that process Canadian crude oil for shipment overseas. He pitched boosting Canada's oil production by two million barrels a year and said Texas Governor Greg Abbott is receptive to buying more products from Canada. His last stop on the tour is New York City, where he will deliver an address at the Foreign Policy Institute on Thursday evening.

Poilievre's appearance on Rogan's podcast comes a year after he declined a previous invitation. Joe Rogan said Poilievre had declined the previous invitation because Poilievre felt the programme was problematic. Poilievre denied that he declined earlier because he felt the programme was problematic and said he could not appear earlier due to scheduling conflicts during the federal election campaign.
