BEAR CREEK, HOUSTON — CenterPoint Energy will send a crew to Houston's Bear Creek subdivision on Wednesday to investigate the root cause of frequent power outages reported by residents. Homeowners say the repeated outages and surges have damaged electronics and prompted some families to install backup generators.

Some residents are questioning whether they can continue living in the neighborhood because of the recurring disruptions. Other homeowners in Bear Creek report experiencing similar outages and surges.

Danielle Marcelle, a Bear Creek homeowner who has lived in the subdivision since 2013, has kept a log of power outages for more than a year. "June 21st of 2025, there are power surges and the lights flickered," she said, describing entries from her log. "It could be a couple of seconds, but also it can be a full-on outage."

She said the disruptions occur regardless of weather conditions. "It could be very sunny with no rain, no wind, and we'll have issues," Marcelle said.

Chase Kirk, another homeowner in the subdivision, said his family spent about $2,000 last year installing a generator inlet system. "Power goes out once in a blue moon everywhere," Kirk said. "But once in a blue moon gets taken advantage of when it's multiple times a week throughout the summer, or it lasts for hours."

Kirk said the outages affect appliances as well. "But over here, somebody washes their car, sneezes in the wrong direction, we lose power for four hours," he said. "TVs go bad because of it. My next-door neighbor across the street lost a washing machine."

CenterPoint Energy encourages customers experiencing service issues to report them using its Outage Tracker so they can be addressed immediately. Whisker Labs, which tracks power outages through sensors installed in homes and businesses nationwide, has gathered data consistent with residents' concerns. CenterPoint has previously disputed findings by Whisker Labs.
