SOUTHWEST SIDE OF SAN ANTONIO — A single-vehicle crash on Southwest Loop 410 in San Antonio ejected both occupants and left a 19-year-old passenger in critical condition early Tuesday. The crash occurred at approximately 1 a.m. in the 4600 block of Southwest Loop 410, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

A 27-year-old male driver and a 19-year-old male passenger were traveling southbound on Southwest Loop 410 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a metal beam. The vehicle rotated several times after the collision, resulting in both occupants being ejected from the car.

Fire crews and first responders responded to the scene and transported both men to a local hospital. Both were treated for possible life-threatening injuries, according to authorities. The 19-year-old passenger suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and remains in critical condition as of Tuesday. The driver, also hospitalized following the crash, has since seen his condition improve.

Officers on scene tested the driver following standard protocol after the crash and determined he was not intoxicated at the time of the incident. Because intoxication was ruled out, no charges are expected to be filed in connection with the crash, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the 4600 block of Southwest Loop 410, a major highway corridor in the city. Authorities have not released the names of either the driver or the passenger. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing, according to police.
