SAN ANTONIO — A judge ordered the euthanasia of a dog named Kilo after it attacked and bit an 80-year-old woman outside her Northwest Side home in San Antonio on May 7. Charges are pending while the investigation continues.

The attack occurred in the 8900 block of Arch Bridge near New Guilbeau Road. Kilo bit the woman in the face, and she was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim's granddaughter and her boyfriend had brought Kilo to the home while visiting. The granddaughter and her boyfriend were outside with the dog when the woman stepped out of the house, and Kilo attacked her face. The granddaughter removed Kilo from the victim and contained the dog.

Kilo had been involved in a separate attack the week before the May 7 incident. In that earlier case, the dog was roaming the neighborhood unrestrained and was involved in an attack on a child.

The euthanasia order came after a judge reviewed the circumstances of both the May 7 attack on the 80-year-old woman and the prior incident involving the child. The victim was transported to a hospital following the attack and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Kilo was owned or brought to the scene by the victim's granddaughter and her boyfriend, who were present at the time of the attack and who contained the dog after the granddaughter pulled it away from the victim. Investigators have continued their work, and charges remain pending in the case.
