GRAPEVINE, TEXAS — The Grapevine Police Department arrested the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck after the vehicle was driven into Grapevine Lake on Monday night, police said. The driver was charged with operation of a vehicle in a closed section of a park or lake, no valid boat registration, and numerous water safety equipment violations.

Just before 8 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to Katie's Woods Park Boat Ramp, where a Tesla Cybertruck was in the water near the shore, according to police. The boat ramp is part of a park area on Grapevine Lake, police said.

The driver told officers he intentionally drove into Grapevine Lake to use the vehicle's "Wade Mode" feature, according to a press release from the department. The driver did not have a valid boat registration and was found to be in violation of numerous water safety equipment requirements, police said. The vehicle had entered a closed section of the park or lake, according to the press release.

The Tesla Cybertruck became disabled and started taking on water after entering the lake. Everyone in the truck got out safely before the Grapevine Fire Department Water Rescue Team helped get the truck out of the lake, according to the press release.

The driver was booked into jail following the incident and remains jailed, police said. The charges filed against the driver include operation of a vehicle in a closed section of a park or lake, no valid boat registration, and numerous water safety equipment violations, according to police.
