BARCELONA — Catalan police arrested Jonathan Andic, vice-chairman of the Mango fashion group, in Catalonia on Tuesday in connection with the December 2024 death of his father, Mango founder Isak Andic. The Mossos d'Esquadra are questioning him over the death.

Isak Andic died after apparently falling about 100 metres down a ravine while hiking in the Montserrat mountains with his son. The initial investigation by the Mossos d'Esquadra regarded the death as an accident. Police investigations had found no direct evidence to explain what happened in the ravine but encountered clues that led them to consider the possibility of homicide.

A family spokesperson said cooperation with the authorities had been complete. "The cooperation has been, and will remain, total," the spokesperson said. "They are also confident that this process will be concluded as soon as possible and that Jonathan Andic's innocence will be proved."

Jonathan Andic is the eldest of Isak Andic's three children and one of his father's heirs. He and his two sisters took over the Mango business after their father's death. As vice-chairman of the Mango board, his duties include supervising the Communication and Image department and heading the group's Interior Design and Construction Management.

Isak Andic was born to a Sephardic Jewish family in Istanbul in 1953 and emigrated to Catalonia with his relatives in the late 1960s. He started by selling T-shirts to fellow high school pupils, then ran a wholesale clothing business and sold clothes in street markets before opening his first Mango store in Barcelona in 1984. He was worth roughly $4.5 billion when he died, making him one of Spain's wealthiest people.

Mango has 2,900 stores in 120 markets worldwide. The company reported revenue of nearly 3.8 billion euros in 2025, an 11% increase from the previous year.
