WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Nationals identified at least one person who will be banned from Nationals Park after a banner promoting a white nationalist website was unfurled during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The team said it is coordinating with the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department on an investigation into the incident.

The banner was displayed in the upper deck of Nationals Park down the first-base line before the fourth inning during Washington's "Salute to Service," which honors veterans and military personnel. It called to "SAVE AMERICA" and "DEPORT 100+ MILLION" before it was quickly taken down. An usher attempted to confiscate the banner, but the three individuals holding it resisted and fled the area.

"The Washington Nationals vehemently condemn discriminatory and hateful rhetoric, and we strive to make our home field a safe space for our fans," the team said in a statement following the game. The Nationals said they are continuing to investigate the incident in coordination with D.C. Metropolitan Police.

Jake Lang, a January 6 rioter and conservative influencer, took credit for the banner on social media. "The crowd went absolutely nuts!!!!" Lang posted. He also wrote, "They might have killed us if we didn't get escorted out."

The Nationals' guest conduct policy requires that banners and signs relate solely to Major League Baseball, an MLB team, on-field activities of Nationals players and/or management and staff, the entity broadcasting a game, or messages pertaining to guests' birthdays, weddings, engagements or homecomings. The policy also prohibits the use of derogatory language concerning a person's race, color, ethnicity, sex, gender, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or national origin. Under the policy, Nationals Park is not a forum for use by the public at large for assembly and speech, for use by certain speakers or for the discussion of certain subjects.

The Orioles defeated the Nationals 7-3. Washington begins a three-game home series against the New York Mets on Tuesday.
