MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA — Google will hold its annual I/O developer conference keynote on Tuesday, May 19, at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific time and 1 p.m. Eastern time. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai will host the event, which will be livestreamed on Google's website, on YouTube, and on the event page.

Google I/O is the annual developer event and product showcase where the company presents updates to its Android operating system and other platforms, along with features and improvements to its artificial intelligence models. The big announcements at I/O usually come in the form of the livestreamed keynote at the Shoreline Amphitheatre.

Last week, Google unveiled new features coming to the upcoming Android 17 operating system and to its ongoing Gemini AI efforts, now called Gemini Intelligence for the most advanced Android devices. Many of the new Android features are AI-powered tools designed to automate tasks such as booking a hotel or ordering an Uber.

Additional Android updates include more robust voice-to-text recognition, expanded autofill capabilities, and enhanced digital well-being settings. Android Auto has a new user interface design, and Google is updating its emojis to have a three-dimensional appearance.

Google also announced the Googlebook platform, a line of AI-first laptops powered by Android technologies that differ from Chromebooks. Acer, HP, Lenovo, and Dell have signed up to manufacture Googlebooks by the end of the year.

The company said last week that I/O will feature a sneak peek at its smart glasses. Google is building out its Android XR platform to power smart glasses from companies including Samsung, Xreal, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker.

Last year, Google announced a new Gemini-powered Google Home smart speaker and said it would launch sometime in the spring of 2026. The smart speaker announcement is among the product reveals Google has previewed ahead of the I/O keynote.
