GASTONIA, N.C. — The Gastonia Police Department chased two stolen motorcycles through Gastonia, N.C., on Sunday and detained both suspects after a search that ended at a local hospital. The pursuit began around noon after a Flock camera spotted the suspects traveling along Armstrong Park Road, according to a news release.

Officers quickly located the motorcycles and attempted a traffic stop, but both riders fled, the news release said. Both motorcycles were later found wrecked and abandoned at the dead end of Melvin Drive, just east of New Hope Road, according to the news release.

Gastonia Police K-9 Bo tracked down one of the suspects, a 20-year-old man, who was found hiding in bushes nearby, the news release said. K-9 Bo then continued tracking the second suspect to CaroMont Regional Medical Center, where officers located him hiding in a drop-down ceiling of the hospital after an extensive search, according to the news release.

The second suspect, a 27-year-old man from Dallas, was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, resisting a public officer, second-degree trespassing, reckless driving, and obstruction of a health care facility, according to court records. Charges against the 20-year-old suspect were not released, court records show.

The Flock camera system, which reads license plates and flags vehicles reported stolen, identified the motorcycles before officers initiated the pursuit on Armstrong Park Road, the news release said. Both suspects were detained without further incident once located, according to the news release. The motorcycles had been reported stolen prior to the Sunday pursuit, and their discovery wrecked at the dead end of Melvin Drive marked the end of the vehicle chase before the foot search began.
