HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS — Deputies with Constable Terry Allbritton's office arrested a wrong-way driver on the West Sam Houston Tollway in Harris County early Saturday morning and charged him with driving while intoxicated and unlawful carry of a firearm. The driver had been traveling south in the northbound lanes before crashing into an off-ramp wall.

The driver entered the tollway near Hammerly Boulevard and continued against traffic before striking the off-ramp wall at Clay Road. No additional details about other vehicles or injuries were released.

Deputies evaluated the driver at the scene following the crash. After the evaluation, deputies determined that he was driving while intoxicated. The driver's identity was not released in connection with the arrest.

During the investigation at the scene, deputies located a gun on the floorboard of the driver's side of the vehicle. The discovery resulted in a second charge against the driver.

The driver faces a charge of unlawful carry of a firearm in addition to the driving while intoxicated charge. The West Sam Houston Tollway runs through Harris County and connects several major roadways. Deputies made the arrest in the early morning hours of Saturday.
