WINDSOR — A member of the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery died on Friday, May 15, after falling from a horse at about 7 p.m. while exiting the arena of the Royal Windsor Horse Show in Windsor, England. The soldier sustained serious injuries and died at the scene despite receiving immediate medical treatment.

Thames Valley Police consider the death unexplained but not suspicious. An army spokesperson said in a statement: "It is with deep regret that we announce a member of the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery died on Friday 15 May, following an incident at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The family has been notified, and our thoughts are with them at this sad and difficult time."

Chief Superintendent Michael Loebenberg appealed for witnesses following the incident. "We are appealing for anyone with information or material relating to the sad death of a military rider at Royal Windsor Horse Show yesterday to please get in touch," he said. Loebenberg confirmed investigators had found no evidence of foul play. "At this stage, we have not found any suspicious circumstances."

Loebenberg said investigators were coordinating with multiple agencies. "We are working with the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Accident Investigation Branch and Royal Windsor Horse Show organisers HPower to gather as much information as possible to understand how this happened," he said. The Defence Accident Investigation Branch is the body responsible for investigating accidents involving British military personnel.

The Royal Windsor Horse Show continued as planned following the incident, with the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery display removed from the schedule. Event director Jo Peck expressed condolences to the soldier's family. "Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of the soldier who sadly died yesterday," she said. Peck confirmed the show would proceed. "The Royal Windsor Horse Show will continue today as per the published timetable, with the omission of the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery display," she said.
