OpenAI launched a set of personal finance tools in preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States, allowing users to connect their financial accounts and ask questions ranging from spending analysis to future financial planning. The tools are available on ChatGPT on the web and on iOS for Pro users.
OpenAI partnered with the financial connection service Plaid to manage account connections. Users can link accounts at more than 12,000 financial institutions, including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One.
Once accounts are connected, users see a dashboard showing portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments. The financial tool can be accessed by selecting "Get started" in the "Finances" option in the sidebar or by typing "@Finances, connect my accounts" in a ChatGPT conversation. The chatbot then guides users through linking accounts via Plaid.
OpenAI plans to add support for Intuit soon, which would enable analysis of the impact of a stock sale on taxes and the odds of a credit card approval. The company plans to refine the personal finance product based on feedback from Pro users before making it available to Plus subscribers.
According to OpenAI, more than 200 million users ask financial questions to ChatGPT every month. The company said its new GPT-5.5 model is stronger at reasoning with context, which improves answers to finance-related questions, and that it worked with finance experts to build a benchmark for evaluating the model on personal finance questions.
OpenAI acquired the team behind personal finance startup Hiro in April. The company said the Hiro team's expertise in finance was useful in launching the personal finance product but did not specify whether the entire feature was built by that team. Hiro had been backed by firms including Ribbit, General Catalyst, and Restive. Perplexity launched a financial research product based on its Computer agent earlier this month.
Users can remove account connections by going to Settings > Apps > Finances. When a service is disconnected, synced data is removed from ChatGPT within 30 days. Users can also view and delete financial memories from the Finances page.
