NORTHWEST HARRIS COUNTY — A man wanted on a felony domestic violence warrant surrendered peacefully at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday after barricading himself for several hours inside a northwest Harris County home on Coleburn near Telge and Tuckerton roads. Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies and SWAT personnel had responded to the residence after authorities attempted to serve the warrant around 9 a.m.

The warrant was for a charge of continuous family violence connected to an alleged assault of a wife by her husband. The warrant had been approved overnight. Deputies had responded to previous domestic violence calls at the home. Children lived at the residence, and deputies waited until the children were in school before attempting to serve the warrant. No one else was inside the house at the time of the standoff.

When deputies tried to make contact with the suspect, he turned and ran into the home. "At some point they tried to make contact with the suspect. He then turned and ran and barricaded himself inside the residence," Harris County Sheriff's Office Major Sid Collier said. Deputies then heard a noise believed to be a gun racking or similar, which caused them to pull back from the residence.

"They heard something, some sort of noise, what was believed to be either a gun racking or something that caused concern to the deputies, so that they backed off," he said.

SWAT officers surrounded the home and attempted to negotiate with the suspect, who did not cooperate. Officers deployed gas into the residence during the standoff. At about 1:45 p.m., the suspect surrendered peacefully. No injuries were reported.
