NEW JERSEY — U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver announced on May 15 that she is 17 weeks pregnant with her second child, expecting the baby this fall. The 39-year-old representative of New Jersey's 10th Congressional District shared the news on her Twitter account.

"I am so excited to be welcoming a new baby to our family this fall. This moment is filled with so much joy for my family and me. Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I am grateful that my family is growing," McIver said in a press release.

McIver and her husband, Khalif Thomas, are parents of a 9-year-old daughter.

In a post on X, McIver wrote: "I'm overjoyed to be expecting a baby this fall. No matter what the world brings. I will keep living my life and doing this job I love. We bring great humans into this world to change it."

McIver is due in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals on June 23 for a hearing seeking to dismiss charges against her related to a May 9, 2025 protest incident at the Delaney Hall immigration facility in Newark. She faces a possible sentence of up to 17 years in prison on those charges.

Alina Habba, former U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, indicted McIver on federal assault and obstruction charges related to her aiding Newark Mayor Ras Baraka during the protest at the Delaney Hall immigration facility. U.S. District Judge Jamel Semper denied McIver's request for dismissal of those charges in November, and she filed an appeal of the dismissal decision in April.

McIver underwent uterine fibroid removal surgery in New Jersey in November 2025. She rushed to Washington, D.C., from that surgery to make a vote to protect healthcare for Americans.

McIver is the first Black woman to represent New Jersey's 10th Congressional District and the youngest person ever elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from New Jersey. She was sworn into office in September 2024. She previously served six years on the Newark City Council, including three years as council president.
