LAKE CITY — The Lake City Police Department will conduct a multi-agency DUI checkpoint on Saturday, May 23, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., the department said. The goal of the checkpoint is to reduce impaired driving and crashes linked to alcohol or drugs, the department said.

The checkpoint could be set up at several locations depending on traffic, weather and other factors, the department said. The department listed six possible sites where the checkpoint could be established during the operation.

Possible locations include South Main Boulevard at State Road 47, Northeast Washington Street at East Hilton Avenue, and the 1400 block of U.S. Highway 90 West, the department said. Additional possible sites include South Marion Avenue at Southwest St. Margarets Street, U.S. Highway 41 North, and State Road 247 north of Bascom Norris Drive, according to the department.

Drivers stopped at the checkpoint should have a valid driver's license, current registration and proof of insurance ready if requested, the department said. Officers will be checking for signs of impairment in addition to verifying that motorists are in compliance with licensing and registration requirements, the department said. The checkpoint is a multi-agency operation, meaning officers from more than one law enforcement agency may be involved in conducting the stop, the department said.

The Lake City Police Department did not specify in advance which single location would be used, noting that the final site will be determined based on traffic, weather and other factors on the night of the operation. The checkpoint is scheduled to run from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m., the department said.
