CHICAGO — An armed suspect shot and robbed two women in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood early Saturday. The incident occurred near West Randolph and North Clinton streets just before 1 a.m.

A male suspect got out of a white SUV and approached two women, aged 21 and 33, on the sidewalk. The suspect demanded the women's property and took a purse from one of them before firing shots. After firing, the suspect returned to the SUV and fled the scene.

The 21-year-old woman was shot in the knee, and the 33-year-old woman was grazed in the hip. The Chicago Fire Department treated both women at the scene. Both women were then taken to Rush Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition.

The West Loop neighborhood is located on the near west side of Chicago. The intersection of West Randolph and North Clinton streets sits within an area that includes restaurants, businesses, and residential buildings. The robbery and shooting occurred on the sidewalk in that area just before 1 a.m. Saturday, according to the account of the incident.

The suspect, described as male, used a white SUV as the getaway vehicle. The SUV was present at the scene when the suspect approached the two women and demanded their property. The suspect took a purse from one of the women before opening fire, striking the younger woman in the knee and grazing the older woman in the hip. No arrests have been reported in connection with the incident.

Area Three detectives are investigating the incident. No further information about the suspect or the white SUV has been released.
