EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY — FIFA announced that the official song for the 2026 World Cup is "Dai Dai," a collaboration between Shakira and Burna Boy. The track was released on streaming platforms on May 15, 2026.

"Dai Dai captures the energy, passion and global spirit that will define the greatest show on earth," FIFA said in a statement. Royalties from the song will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million for children's education and soccer opportunities by the end of the tournament.

The title comes from an Italian expression meaning "come on, come on." The lyrics include equivalents of that phrase in English, Japanese, French and Spanish. The track blends Afrobeats with Latin Pop and is sung mostly in English with some Spanish. Its lyrics reference soccer players Pelé, Maradona, Maldini, Romário and Cristiano Ronaldo, and mention Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia, the United States, England, Germany and France.

"I think this is purposefully FIFA's effort to have a successful song by bringing in artists that they know are going to appeal to at least two large numbers of the population, the Latin population and the sub-Saharan African population," said Eduardo Herrera, associate professor of ethnomusicology at Indiana University. "She's good at incorporating elements or gestures towards other cultures, so she can pull on these things and bring it into this global pop package," said Brent Keogh, lecturer in music and sound design at the University of Technology Sydney.

Burna Boy is a Nigerian singer credited with bringing Afrobeats to a mainstream audience through hits including "Last Last." He became the first solo Nigerian artist to win a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021, and in 2023 became the first African artist to sell out a U.S. stadium when he filled New York's Citi Field.

Shakira previously performed the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," which earned the Guinness World Record in January 2025 for most streamed World Cup song on Spotify, with over one billion streams. She also performed a special version of "Hips Don't Lie" at the 2006 World Cup closing ceremony and "La La La (Brazil 2014)" at the 2014 closing ceremony.

Music has been part of the World Cup since its debut in 1930. A German polka song was associated with the national team at the 1974 tournament. Ricky Martin's "La Copa de la Vida" served as the official song of the 1998 World Cup. The official song of the 2014 tournament was "We Are One (Ole Ola)" by Pitbull featuring Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte, and the 2018 song was "Live It Up" by Nicky Jam featuring Will Smith and Era Istrefi, produced by Diplo. The 2022 tournament did not have a single official song but released a broader FIFA album whose first single was "Hayya Hayya (Better Together)" performed by Trinidad Cardona, Davido and Aisha. The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, will run from June 11 through July 19, 2026.
