EVERGLADES WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Braden Eric Peters was sentenced to six months of probation in a Florida court after pleading no contest to unlawfully discharging a firearm at a wildlife sanctuary in March. Under the agreement, the case can be removed from his record if he completes firearms and wildlife safety courses and 20 hours of community service that cannot be streamed or monetised, officials said.

The case stems from a March 26 incident that Peters captured during a video livestream. The footage appears to show multiple gunshots being fired into swamp water from an airboat in the Everglades Wildlife Management Area, west of Miami. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said it was aware of a video depicting individuals in the Everglades on an airboat who appear to be discharging at an alligator.

Jeffrey Neiman, an attorney for Peters, said his client had accepted responsibility for his conduct. "He is committed to moving forward responsibly and ensuring nothing like this occurs again," Neiman said. "We appreciate the professionalism of the State and the Court in resolving this matter."

An attorney representing another individual charged in the case said his client had been following the instructions of a licensed airboat guide and that no animals or people were harmed during the incident.

Andrew Morales, known online as "The Cuban Tarzan," also pleaded no contest in connection with the apparent shooting and received a similar deal. Yabdiel Anibal Cotto Torres was also charged in the case and is scheduled to enter a plea on May 20.
