Josh D'Amaro succeeded Bob Iger as CEO of Disney on Wednesday. D'Amaro sent a memo to Disney employees on his first day as CEO.
"As I step into the CEO role today, I am humbled and honored to help write the next chapter of this company alongside this team," D'Amaro wrote in the memo. Before becoming CEO, D'Amaro ran Disney's Experiences division, which includes its parks and cruises businesses.
D'Amaro outlined three top priorities for the company in his memo. Great storytelling and creative excellence is one of his priorities as CEO. Embracing technology to help create more immersive, interactive, and personal ways for people to experience Disney is another priority.
Operating as One Disney, which D'Amaro said means aligning teams and working together, is his third priority. D'Amaro was chosen over Dana Walden for the CEO position. Dana Walden was promoted to chief creative officer, a newly created position at Disney.
A Disney World staffer said: "He's genuinely kind, nice, and cares about all the cast members." D'Amaro joined Disney in 1998. D'Amaro and Bob Iger share the same birthday: February 10.
Bob Iger served two separate tenures as CEO of Disney. Disney's stock price has not changed over the last 10 years. Late last year, Bank of America analyst Jessica Reif Ehrlich said that Disney's stock was at its lowest relative valuation in more than 40 years.
