SPRING BRANCH, TEXAS — A Comal County jury sentenced Jason Aaron Vancleave to 40 years in prison for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a January 2024 attack at a Spring Branch, Texas, RV park. The jury also imposed 20-year terms on each of two counts of assault family violence with a previous conviction, according to the Comal County District Attorney's Office. All of the sentences will run concurrently, according to the district attorney's office.

Comal County deputies responded to a 911 call at Vineyard View RV Park on January 19, 2024. Vancleave's girlfriend reported that he was intoxicated and acting aggressively, investigators said. Upon arrival, deputies found a man and a woman with injuries. The woman had visible swelling on her face.

Vancleave struck the woman in the jaw with the end of a rifle, causing swelling, authorities said. He had approached the woman in a confrontational manner, prompting her to kick him due to similar incidents in the past, according to the district attorney's office.

Vancleave threw a pair of pliers, hitting a man above the eye, deputies said. He also took a cellphone and threw it outside, according to the district attorney's office. The male victim was taken to a hospital in San Antonio for treatment. Deputies placed a helmet on Vancleave during his arrest to prevent injury because he was combative and aggressive, deputies said.

Prosecutors presented evidence and Vancleave's criminal history during the trial, leading the jury to impose the sentence, prosecutors said. The evidence included a 911 call recording, photos of the victims' injuries, medical records, bodycam footage, jail calls and witness testimony, according to the district attorney's office. Vancleave's criminal history includes deadly conduct, assault family violence with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the district attorney's office.
