GRIMES COUNTY, TEXAS — The Grimes County Commissioners Court is considering tax abatements for Space Exploration Technologies Corp.'s proposed $55 billion Terafab chipmaking facility. The plant is planned at a site at the Gibbons Creek Reservoir, roughly 20 miles east of Bryan-College Station.

The proposed development could grow to a total investment of $119 billion with subsequent phases. Terafab is a joint venture of Tesla Inc., xAI and Space Exploration Technologies Corp. valued at more than $20 billion.

Project documents describe the facility as a "multi-phase, next-generation, vertically integrated semiconductor manufacturing and advanced computing fabrication facility, which would represent a transformative investment in domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity."
