San Antonio city leaders are scheduled to provide an update Thursday on Project Marvel, a proposed downtown sports and entertainment district that includes a new Spurs arena. The City Council Chambers meeting begins at 9 a.m.

The plan has not had a major public update since January and remains in the study and assessment phase. City council is expected to consider approving additional studies for the next phase of the project.

City council is also finalizing the hiring of an executive project manager to oversee the multi-year effort. The executive project manager will guide developments tied to Project Marvel, including upgrades to the Alamodome, the Henry B. González Convention Center, and the transformation of the old federal courthouse into a new venue.

Officials aim to acquire the Institute of Texan Cultures property by the end of the year as the proposed site for the new arena. They also aim to acquire nearby federal properties later this summer.

Spurs Sports & Entertainment revealed nine firms that will lead key aspects of the downtown arena and entertainment district. The firms are CAA ICON, Goldman Sachs, Hunton Andrews Kurth, LLP, Jorge Rodriguez Financial Consulting, Marquee Development, Overland International, Pape-Dawson, Sasaki, and Stafford Sports. The new arena and district will collaborate with local businesses and community partners.
