WASHINGTON — Albright's Raw Pet Food is voluntarily recalling one lot of its Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced formula after routine sampling by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration detected salmonella in one composite sample of the product. The Fort Wayne, Indiana-based company said the action was taken out of an abundance of caution, and third-party confirmatory testing of the recalled lot remains pending.

The recall affects frozen one-pound vacuum-sealed packages distributed nationwide to consumers and to a limited number of retailers in Massachusetts, California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Wisconsin and New York. The recalled product is Albright's Raw Pet Food – Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced, UPC 20855404008367, sold in one-pound pouches with a best-by date of April 28, 2027, and lot code C001730.

No illnesses involving pets or humans have been reported in connection with the recalled lot. The company is continuing its investigation and additional laboratory testing while working with the FDA on the voluntary recall.

Salmonella can cause illness in pets that consume contaminated food and may spread to humans who handle the product or come into contact with contaminated surfaces or infected animals. Pets infected with salmonella may experience lethargy, diarrhea, bloody diarrhea, vomiting, fever, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. Some animals may show no symptoms while still shedding salmonella bacteria.

In people, salmonella infection can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Severe infections may lead to more serious complications, particularly in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

Consumers are advised not to feed the recalled product to pets. Any remaining product should be discarded or destroyed in a way that prevents access by children, pets or wildlife. Customers seeking refunds are asked to submit a receipt and photographs of the product, along with information about where it was purchased, by email to info@albrightsraw.com.
