EAST AUSTIN — The Austin Police Department called a SWAT team to a home on the 3400 block of Kay Street in East Austin at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday after a man threatened to kill a family member and barricaded himself inside. Police identified the suspect as Darryl Bernard Brown.

The home is located near Airport Boulevard and Goodwin Avenue. Brown threatened a relative with a hammer while stating he was going to kill them, according to police. Witnesses told law enforcement that Brown had a butter knife before entering the home.

After Brown barricaded himself inside the house, K-9 units and hostage negotiators were dispatched to the scene. Officers made announcements and tried to contact Brown by phone during the incident but did not receive a response.

Investigators later found a hammer and a knife at the residence. No injuries were reported during the incident.

As of Monday, Brown had not been located. An investigation into the incident remains underway. Police were expected to provide more details in a media briefing later Saturday.

The public has been asked to avoid the area around the 3400 block of Kay Street, near Airport Boulevard and Goodwin Avenue, while the investigation continues.
