SAN ANTONIO — A woman was hospitalized in critical condition after a head-on collision Friday afternoon on San Antonio's west side. The crash occurred around 3:58 p.m. at the intersection of West Commerce Street and South General McMullen Drive.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the driver of a Honda Accord was traveling northbound on South General McMullen Drive as she approached West Commerce Street. Investigators said the vehicle then crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Mazda head-on that was traveling in the opposite direction.
Investigators said the Honda driver appeared to have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash. The suspected medical episode is believed to have occurred before the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, according to investigators. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition following the collision.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene at West Commerce Street and South General McMullen Drive, where the two vehicles came to rest after the head-on impact. The intersection is located on San Antonio's west side.
The driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to the San Antonio Police Department. Police said no criminal charges are expected to be filed in connection with the crash.
The San Antonio Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision. Authorities have not released the name of the Honda driver or additional details about her medical condition beyond her critical status at the time of transport.
