TEXAS CITY — The Galveston County Sheriff's Office took a juvenile into custody in Texas City on Saturday and recovered a stolen .300 Blackout AR-style rifle with a suppressor, a ballistic vest and other property tied to the burglary of an unmarked deputy vehicle. The vehicle was burglarized on May 8, and the stolen items also included a deputy's duty belt.

Around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff's office posted to social media that it had credible information about the location of the stolen rifle and vest. Deputies staked out a house in Texas City and stopped a person who left the residence.

The person told deputies that the rifle and vest were inside the house. A subsequent search of the residence turned up the stolen rifle, the ballistic vest and other stolen property, including a handgun.

Before the arrest, crime scene investigators had recovered fingerprints from the burglarized vehicle. The sheriff's office had also announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the stolen items or the arrest of those responsible.

"We are urging whoever is in possession of these items to return them immediately," the Galveston County Sheriff's Office said in a statement issued after the burglary. "These are law enforcement-issued items and pose a significant threat to public safety if in the wrong hands."

The sheriff's office warned that the stolen equipment could pose a serious risk if it was not quickly recovered. The burglary is being jointly investigated by the sheriff's office and the Texas City Police Department.
