TEXAS — Actor Donald Gibb, who played Frederick Aloysius "Ogre" Palowaski in the 1984 film Revenge of the Nerds, died at age 71 at his home in Texas due to health complications. He was surrounded by family at the time of his death.

Gibb reprised the role of Ogre in the sequels Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise in 1987 and Revenge of the Nerds IV: Nerds in Love in 1994. He also played Ray Jackson in the 1988 film Bloodsport and reprised that role in the 1996 film Bloodsport II: The Next Kumite.

Donald Richard Gibb was born on August 4, 1954, in New York City and was raised in California. He attended the University of New Mexico on a basketball scholarship and played football and basketball at the University of San Diego. Before his acting career, he had a roster spot on the San Diego Chargers.

Gibb appeared as a henchman in the 1980 film Any Which Way You Can and had uncredited roles in the films Stripes and Conan the Barbarian in the early 1980s. His television work during the 1980s and 1990s included one-off roles in Simon & Simon, The A-Team, Magnum, P.I., Benson, The Facts of Life, Night Court, MacGyver, The X-Files, The Young and the Restless, Seinfeld and Days of Our Lives.

His later film credits include Hancock, 8 of Diamonds, The Biggest Fan, The Lightning Bug and Grind. His most recent acting credit was a supporting role in the film Hands, and he had a small role in the unreleased film Burlesque Ghost Hunters. He also lent his voice to the video games Rage, Mafia II and Alter Echo.

He is survived by his son, Travis.
