GREENEVILLE — The Greeneville Energy Authority rescued a bear cub that had become stuck atop a light pole in Greeneville over the weekend. The utility carried out the rescue at the request of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, which asked for help bringing the animal down safely.

The cub had climbed to the top of the pole before crews were called in to assist. After the operation, the animal was transferred to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The agency is responsible for managing wildlife across the state and coordinating responses when wild animals require intervention in populated areas.

"We're glad to report the cub is safe and sound, now in the care of the TWRA," the Greeneville Energy Authority said. The authority added that it was pleased to assist the state agency with the unusual request.

The utility acknowledged that the call fell outside its usual scope of work. "Not exactly a typical work order, but we are here to serve our community in any way we can!" the authority said. The Greeneville Energy Authority is the municipal electric utility serving Greeneville, Tennessee, and its surrounding area.
